organisational culture audit
A culture audit reveals whether your organisation’s culture is an asset or liability, while providing evidence and direction for change. It measures what is “normal” within an organisation – in terms of the values, behaviours and assumptions which dictate the way people approach their work. An organisational culture audit reveals whether your organisation’s culture is asset or a liability.
if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it
Many organisations talk about the need to change culture but few get beyond the “spin”. Organisational culture goes to the heart of the organisation; it’s deep-seated and hard to alter. Unfortunately there are no silver bullets or quick fixes when it comes to culture change, which is why so many initiatives peter out. If organisations are serious about changing culture, the starting point is measurement. Without a culture audit they are stabbing in the dark and stand little chance of bringing about constructive culture change.
how to measure organisational culture
We use a multi-level diagnostic system for culture audits. This integrated set of tools will help your organisation to:
- measure and describe the current culture
- compare organisational culture with other organisations
- demonstrate the impact of organisational culture on outcomes and performance
- visualise the ideal future culture
- identify the most powerful levers for change
- build a plan for culture change
survey
An on-line survey is used to measure and describe the current culture. We then identify the preferred culture – the one which will best enable the organisation to achieve its objectives. The culture audit also identifies the factors which are driving and shaping culture.
analysis
It is important to gain a full understanding of the implications of the current culture on performance and outcomes. An identification of the gaps between the current and ideal cultures enables cultural targets to be set and levers for change to be identified.
our culture audit tools’ research base
We use the Human Synergistics diagnostics, including the Organisational Culture Inventory, for measuring organisational culture. In addition to providing an intuitive model for describing culture, these tools promote a common vocabulary and understanding of the behaviours which shape organisational culture.
These tools have an ongoing research base of more than twenty years. A range of norm groups enables meaningful comparisons to be made with other organisations. The diagnostics are based on the Circumplex model.
